Radiology (X-ray)

Radiology (taking x-rays) is a very useful diagnostic tool. We offer this service at Plantation Pet Health Center for animals as small as canaries up to dogs as big as Irish Wolfhounds. We can take and develop radiographs (x-rays) in house without the hassle of referring to an outside source. Our automatic processor allows us to actually view those x-ray films just a few minutes after taking them.

X-ray technology allows us to examine bone and joint structure; to assess organ size, shape, and position; and to search for foreign bodies lodged in the stomach, intestines, urinary bladder, and gall bladder. We often use this tool to better diagnose diseases of the stomach and intestine, heart and lungs, bones and joints, and many other organs. This is accomplished by using a machine that projects x-radiation through the body onto a piece of special film. Different types of tissues in the body absorb and reflect x-rays differently allowing us to see their images on the film. The procedure is very non-invasive as the body is not actually entered physically.
